Welcome to Olive Speech & Language Therapy!
We build language skills in everyday moments.
Olive Speech & Language Therapy provides in-home speech therapy for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in Vista, CA, and surrounding areas.
We know that kids learn best through meaningful interactions, so we embed speech therapy into your child’s daily routines! You’ll often see us working with your child on the floor and turning their favorite toys, activities, and TV characters into opportunities for communication. Our sessions may look like play, but they’re filled with evidence-based strategies to help your child share their needs, wants, and ideas.
Just as importantly, we help you feel confident in supporting your child’s developmental journey. You’ll leave sessions with simple tips and strategies you can use all week long to help your child connect with the world around them.
Evaluation & Speech Therapy Services
Olive Speech & Language Therapy provides private speech therapy and early intervention services for children in Vista, Oceanside, San Marcos, Carlsbad, and surrounding areas. Morning, afternoon, and evening sessions are available!
Our Approach
At Olive Speech & Language Therapy, every session is centered on your family’s values. Taking a child-led approach, we’ll incorporate your child's interests into sessions and support early language skills while playing with cars on the floor, jumping on the trampoline outside, or blowing bubbles.
Parents are important members of the team, so you’ll be involved in our sessions every step of the way. We’ll teach you simple strategies, give you a chance to practice them, and work together to choose core words for you to focus on each week. Siblings are always welcome to join in, too!
-
We’ll start by learning about your child’s communication strengths and identifying any areas that need support.
Prior to your appointment, we’ll ask you to complete a case history form to give us some background on your child. We’ll also ask you questions about their communication skills and give you space to share about any concerns you may have.
Evaluations are typically scheduled for 90 minutes and include a parent interview, observations, and targeted speech and language assessments.
Once the evaluation is complete, we’ll walk you through the results and work together to set meaningful goals for therapy.
-
Whether your child has yet to speak their first word, isn’t combining words, or is having a hard time following directions, we’ll work together to help them:
Use and understand new words
Express wants and needs without tantrums
Follow simple 1-3 step directions
Combine words into simple phrases
Engage in imaginary and symbolic play
Early intervention services are designed to support early language development in children 18-36 months of age in their natural environment—typically at home or daycare. Sessions are 60 minutes long and include caregiver coaching.
-
Does your child have a hard time making speech sounds, expressing themselves, or using language to learn and socialize? Our speech therapy sessions incorporate structured practice into crafts, books, or games to help your child:
Speak clearly
Gain early academic skills (e.g., shapes, colors, numbers)
Ask and answer questions
Improve grammar and sentence length
Practice social skills (e.g., turn taking, interactive play)
Preschool speech therapy sessions take place in your child's home, daycare, preschool, or favorite community setting. Our goal is to help your child communicate with confidence and succeed in school!
-
When working with our Autistic clients, we first focus on building trust and authentic relationships. Our neurodiversity-affirming speech therapy will focus on helping your child:
Communicate using gestures, speech, or low/high-tech AAC
Understand and use language to connect with others
Participate more fully in academic, social, and family events
Practice social skills (e.g., turn taking) and executive functioning skills (e.g., problem solving)
Gain independence
At Olive Speech & Language Therapy, we honor all forms of communication and respect each child’s unique sensory needs. Your child will always feel safe to try hard things!
Meet Your Speech Therapist
Janelle Mills, M.S., CCC-SLP
Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist
Hi, I’m Janelle! I’m a pediatric speech therapist who specializes in helping young children connect and communicate with their loved ones. I’m passionate about advocating for children who cannot yet advocate for themselves.
My role is not only to support your child, but to support your entire family. I take time to ask about your week, listen closely to your concerns, and understand what matters most to you. I never minimize a parent’s worries; rather, I create space for you to feel heard, and offer support in the way that works best for your family.
My goal is to be a member of your child’s care team and empower you with practical tips and resources to help you navigate your child’s developmental journey. I’ll be there to celebrate each win with you, big or small!
